The operating system is a set of programs that manage computer resources and control its operation.

An OS performs five basic functions: User Interface Supply, Resource Management, File Management, Task Management and Support Service.

Providing the user interface: Allows the user to communicate with the computer through interfaces based on command interfaces using menus and graphical user interfaces.
Resource Management: They manage hardware resources such as CPU, memory, secondary storage devices and peripheral input and output.

File Management: Controls the creation, deletion, copying and file access data and programs.
Task Management: Manage information about programs and processes running on the computer. You can change the priority of processes, complete them and check the use of these in the CPU and ending programs.

Support Services: Support Services for each operating system implementations depend added to this, and may consist of adding new utilities, updated versions, security enhancements, new peripheral drivers or software error correction.
